Anybody ever build a gun?
« on: October 07, 2013, 06:37:03 PM »
I have a few hard to find guns on my want list, and don't really care about the value of them because I plan on using them in the field, and want function over form, so I began thinking...

Has anybody put together a firearm with nothing but parts from shops and the www? I saw the bolt and barrel for one gun I want, along with the majority of all the parts on numrich, and would only have to find a stock, and whatever oddballs that are sold out, but it sure looks easier and cheaper than having to cough up 600$+

I've built muzzleloaders before, but something tells me this might be a little different....

What are your experiences?
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

Yup,
Five  1911's
Two M14's
Six Mauser rifles.

By the time you get done with it, it is worth just as much if not more than what you could buy one for.  And the tools you got to buy.

I do it because I like to do it.
Progressives are coming for your guns.
What are you going to do?

Well me, I do not have any guns, gave away or sold them 15 years ago.

I put together savage 10 110 and rem 700s all the time unless your going to do it a lot by the time you buy barrel vices, action wrenches and headspace guages it rarely pays.  Most barrels even from the same model will need the headspace adjusted if your lucky it will be to short and you just have to rent a reamer and lengthen the chamber if too long you need tofind someone with a lathe to fit the barrel that gers expensive
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

Hmm yea the gun I want to build is the Marlin 5510 super goose, which is a bolt action shotgun, not a rifle..... I understand head spacing and how all that related stuff works, but is it of any relevance in a shotgun?

I have just bought a single shot 10 ga, but I really think a bolt action 10ga would just be a cool piece to add to my collection
