Saw one deer today and it was a shooter buck.......
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:01:52 PM »
Needless to say it is still alive :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Me and the wife left home at 0400 to see if we could get her a deer in one day.  We drove for 1.5 hours and hiked another hour so we could be in stand at sun up.  In three years I have never seen another hunter around my stand......well today that was to change  :bash: :bash:.  Not only did we see two other hunters, but they yelled across the small draw we sit on to see if I was Leonard... :bash: :bash: :bash:  After the yelling they walk off and me and the wife sit for another hour (now 0930).

Figuring the gig was up due to all the yelling me and the wife decide to go on a nature hike.  We go to explore some land we have never seen before.  We pack up and take off for what was to be one of my biggest bone head mistakes ever.... :bash: :bash: :bash:

About an hour into the hike I spot a deer in the heavy brush.  It is literally 20 yards away and staring at me. I stop my wife with a hand signal and look over the deer.  I come to the conclusion that it is a doe and motion my wife to join me.  When she gets by my side I say look she is still standing there.  My wife quickly responds....that's not a doe, its a buck.   :bash: :bash: :bash:   I throw up the binos and sure enough it is a buck......3x2 and I tell my wife to shoot it.  Well needless to say HE had enough of us and exited stage right with no shots fired.   :bash: :bash: :bash:  Never caught up to him and came home empty handed.

I feel like a total LOSER for being such a bone head.  I have no doubt had I identified the buck as a shooter quicker my wife would have shot her second buck to date.

Checked my trail cam pics and at least we have pics of the buck that should have been....kind of like salt in the wound.

Wish we could but we only had one day to get her done, wife is leaving on a vacation (priorities!!!).  Maybe we will get out for  a late blacktail or whitetail hunt.
