A buck for Grandpa RIP Gordon Mooney
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:21:56 PM »
I recieved a call at work this morning informing me my Grandfather had passed.  Dad and I have had a hard time keeping our heads up as Grandpas conditions started to worsen on opening day.  Grandpa was quite the hunter and all the several dozen heads in our family trophy room serve a reminder that such heratige is passed on through the years. I left work and feeling a flood of emotion decided the best place to be is in the woods, I wanted to get a buck for Gramps.  I walked out to my food plot at 11 and asked Grampa to help me find a deer and this buck was feeding unaware 60yrds off.  It has been a very emotional day.  Sure there are much bigger deer but this one is huge for me in many ways. Its not always points and inches. Pictured with me is my stepson, the next generation.   RIP  Gordon Mooney

Sorry to hear of your loss, I am sure that buck will have a special place on the wall and in your memories for years to come.

Thanks everyone.  I might add that I did indeed take this buck with my bow.  I wouldnt take such a long shot but with diligent practice I felt that I could make the shot.  He was completely relaxed broadside and never flinched at the shot.  The arrow took the top of the heart and he was down within 50 yrds.

Nice buck, Lucky. I'm sorry about your gramps. Sounds like you sent him off right, though.

Sorry for your loss of your Grandfather.  Its cool that he passed his heritage on to you and now you are doing the same.  Congrats on a nice buck.
