Yesterday I got a bit of a scare.
My blk Lab Male who will be 9 this coming March, got a good workout yesterday. 20 geese & 2 ducks.
Had a lot of ducks land behind us before legal shooting time. When one of the party raised up to get an idea as to how far away they were, they just flew across the field another 250 yds , just out of sight over a rise. We correctly figured the geese would be showing up soon and did not want the ducks pulling he geese away from our spread.
Got the dog out and sent him to bump the ducks, so the round trip was some 500 yds before we ever shot a goose. After the shooting, he'd received a good workout.
On the way out of the field and when we got home he was just fine. After he laid down for a while, he got up and was carrying his right rear leg. I thought, crap, a Cruciate ligament tear.
Gave him a Rimadyl I had laying around for an older dog and held my breath all night (I understand cyanosis is an in color this year). This morning he was his usual self. Not sure what happened or how, just glad it's not a season ender for him. He does not have that many left.
Apologize for the lack of quality of photo.
