West Side Scouting Report... I think they are all on vacation
« on: September 03, 2017, 05:10:29 PM »
Curious if others have been experiencing the same thing.

Between my hunting partner and I: we have woke up at daylight in prime elk glassing country 6 mornings in the past 4 weeks.  These are areas we are familiar with and usually would see a ton of elk this time of year, but we have seen a total of 1 COW... TOTAL.

I'm guessing they are all in north facing, deep, wet, and, brushy hell holes due to the hot weather... but I don't know for sure.

Are others having similar results?

Getting out of the heat.  Probably mostly nocturnal right now.  Heck, I don't even want to go outside right now.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I have 15 cams out right now. 99% of the pictures are at night. Other then a few rag horns just after daylight or before night. bears and lions all times of the day. Elk and deer mainly at night.

Yeah, I have been seeing some deer, but no elk.  I have Sept. 9-17 off work for archery season, but if the weather doesn't change then I am just going to save my vacation.

Looks to be warm and cloudy.  :dunno: can you just change for later dates for vacation?

I didn't realize any spot in western Washington was prime classing country  :dunno:

I would suggest target them from like 10 am to 4 pm and try getting to them in their beds. You know they won't be moving, so as soon as you locate just charge on in.
