Blacktail help!!!!!
« on: October 24, 2013, 04:24:51 PM »
Ok, so here is the deal, my hunting partner and I camped in the Capital Forest last week from wed to sun.  We hunted hard both morning and evening, through the brush, along the clear cuts (which I thought were pretty rough and bare with not much foilage) and kept at it everyday we were there.  We also packed our bikes and exhausted ourselves on some logging roads with closed gates, which were not many.  There was an abundance of hunters in that small forest and we were hoping that would play to our advantage.  Saw some sign and deer at night but only one doe and no buck during shooting light.  We mainly went down there to scout for elk because of hearing some info on some being down there.  Nothing.  We hunted around oakville and took a day and also went all the way into Brooklynn.  So now we have a dilema, we live in Edmonds and want to maybe do a couple of evening hunts throughout the week after work and maybe day hunts during late season also.  Time constraints because of work will not allow any more than this.  Any info would be very helpful in finding open/public land if there is any within no more than an hour of Edmonds.  There are some quality areas in the Capital forest but it would be too far to travel for an evening hunt and because I am taking my last vacation days for western elk. I would hope I can get some venison in my freezer with the help of much appreciated info regarding close by evening or day hunt possibilities.  I do work in Auburn and usually am off around 230 so any info from there north would be appreciated.  I do have maps but just not familiar with hunting along or slightly off the I-5 in the north end.  I appreciate any info.  Also, Tent camping and western elk?  Is Greenwater open during elk, deer, late buck?  I am at a loss inn western washington for elk to and we have set aside five days to camp hoping for a successful hunt.
