Opening weekend...my sons Toutle tag
« on: November 04, 2013, 09:26:37 AM »
Well one day of opening the weekend.  We weren't able to make it down there for the whole weekend like planned.  Some family issues messed us up from hunting the opener on Sat.  But I heard it was really rainy and windy.  So we went yesterday for a day hunt since he had tests at school today and tomorrow.  So a long day....drove down hunted form dark to dark.  Early morning prime time we were dealing with fog and did find a little group of about 8 elk with one ok bull.  They were a long ways off when we spotted them.  We made our move but kept loosing them from time to time in the fog.  They finally made it to the timber and were gone for ever.  We had rain, snow and fog....great elk hunting weather.  Didn't see any other elk.  Did hear some or I should say A LOT of shooting at one point.  I am guessing it was a group of hunters because we heard about 20 shots fired.  Never seen that group so don't know if they got any.  On the way out we did see what look like a small 4 or 5 point in the back of someone truck.  We plan to head back down on Wedn to give it another go for a few days.

my son had the mudflow antlerless tag, we went saturday and hiked into the hole, well it was definatly some nasty weather, didnt even see a fresh track of any kind, not very familiar with the unit. i do have to say it looked like some of the finest blacktail habitat in the world, but as luck would have didnt see any blackies either. saw plenty of humans thats for sure... good luck if you make it back down there

Keep at it. Work the area I told you about. Sooner or later you will find one. Let me know if you have any questions.
