I just got back from my elk trip. Almost had one but some retard pulled up in a truck and turned his engine off and scared the bull away. It was about 40 yard out in the trees and I heard him coming in but as soon as the guy pulled in and turned his truck off it ran off and my buddies seen it running but could not get a shot off. This was on opening day about 20 minutes into my first hunt. On the second day we saw about 20 elk in someone's yard but it was posted, we spent most of the day driving around but my friend Jeff got a shot off at a bull later in the day but missed due to being in some pretty thick forest. We got soaked on the third day, it poured all day long and we were waterlogged. We were miserable and it wasn't much fun hunting in that weather. The last day we went out in the morning and did not see anything before packing up and heading home. This trip was allot of fun but we were hunting in some tough terrain. Lots of undergrowth and steep hills that you could only get to by crossing a river. Rain gear and knee high muck boots are a must, and that's no guarantee. all together we saw about 40 elk but nothing we could hunt due to those animals being on private posted land. I almost got attacked by an otter, that was interesting. We were walking along the river and found two of them playing in the water and I called to them and the male got pissed and started growling at me and then the thing came after me. I got my rifle ready in case I had to defend myself but he disappeared. I got my fill of fresh BBQ oysters. We were hunting just west of South Bend, Wa which if you are not familiar with the area is the Oyster capitol of the world. We also had fresh crab which was tasty. Ate good, drank allot and got wet!
