Just another AR thread
« on: November 17, 2013, 06:29:05 AM »
Ok, scenario. You want to have 3 AR builds. What do you do (i.e. what uppers)?

Technically, one is already used, as a Stag 2L.

One I was thinking to build as a varmint rifle.

The third, I was thinking of doing as a simple A2.

I will have two other builds for other family members, but thinking of doing those as simple M4A1 style.

Thoughts?

I have 4 different variations

1, Set up specifically for 3-gun shooting 18" JP Precision w/ Swaro Z6i 1-6 optics
2, Lightweight 16" carbine with an aimpoint and Crimson Trace laser.
 3, Varmint set-up
4, Similar to #1 but in .308, I have used it for matches, but also use it for hunting.

That's just me.

What's the varmint setup like? I know I've seen "varmint," uppers. That pretty much a fail proof way to go? Anything in particular to look for?

Build a varmint. Fun to shoot. put a 18"-20" barrel, nice trigger, some optics and have fun. I have a few an the varmint gets used the most.

That's about right, I have a 20" barrel, I use giessele and JP triggers only. Triggers, barrels and optics are the most important parts of a good rifle.

I have the Varmint taken care of.
I am thinking defense rifle next.  Maybe 5.45X39.
I really want a 6X45 also.....long range precision hunter.

If you don't have an ak, a 7.62x39 ar might be fun and the ammo is cheaper.
