and easy side by side comparison, the big guy in the middle pic with the shrunken antlers between a couple pics of young bucks.  drastically different bodies

He's not even prime yet, just a younger buck with more winter hair  :dunno:

Definatly not an old geezer buck,  but that back leg looks swollen up pretty good, might be throwing you off.

in the one pic I think I see hair gone of the back leg, definatly swollen up good.

ears back, leg held out and looks like hair missing - this deer is hating life

looks like he has sway back and massive torso to me.  one thing im sure of is that ill be keeping a camera up at this spot through next season and ill be going down looking for sheds ( lots of moose and some muleys there too ) so more evidence indicating one way or another may be yet to come.

look at the left rear leg, lot of swelling there.  I think he took a horn to his rear ham or bullet - or bite maybe hard to say.
I bet he's pretty nasty under that hide, bet you don't see him next year.

maybe hes a 2.5 year old with a crappy rack and a weight problem?  something odd about him tho, he definitely has some serious body mass on the other young bucks around, and his rack is pretty damned funky.  i do see that swollen left rear leg now that you point it out.  when i go down there to look for sheds and check my camera ill be keeping an eye out for a carcass with a funky rack on it, see if i cant get a look at his teeth.

Hurt young buck that has found an oat bucket somewhere to gorge on.    :dunno:   My opinion is just that, an opinion, but I don't think its an old buck.  bases don't look right nor does his face.   Certainly a different duck though.

Not taking anything away from that buck and if you want to kill him I think that is awesome (killed plenty that size during my life)....He is young buck. He has some fat and a winter coat on him....Also..even though bucks degrade (sometimes down to where they just have a few points) their antlers rarely look like that of a 1.5 year old.

If you saw my picture of Uncle Buck over the past three years on the other thread then you see that pictures of a great buck that degraded a bit over the three years I had him on camera. Both of his incisors were missing from his lower jaw and he had massive tooth wear so I am surprised he grew what he did.

Here are some pictures of over mature bucks that are degrading. Below are pics of the same buck. One last year and one this year (I know they are the same buck because they are in the same area and both are missing that hair on the right side).

ya his body size and odd shape of his antlers threw me off, looking now he doesnt even have any tarsal staining.  just seems odd he looks so much heftier than the other year old bucks.

The head says it all.. Very short and small head.. Young buck. A mature buck will be 7" or longer from nose to eye
