3x4 blacktail in full rut
« on: November 06, 2008, 06:20:34 PM »
Monday at around 4:15 a buddy called and said a nice antlered buck had just crossed the road behind his car as he was heading home.  He stopped and watched and waited for me to get there and sure enough a very heavy 2x3 plus eyegaurds was less than 30 yards sniffin a doe.  He didn't even care we were there and his neck was ginormous.  Seems early and I will keep an eye out for him again and try to video.

Im in Olympia and every year I know rut is starting because the bucks come in the neighborhood. Last year i called a 4 x 5 while working on my duck boat floor. The dewalt 18 volt drill was slipping on the clutch over and over drilling thru my aluminum floor boards making a rut like sound. I looked up and he was stainding right off the bow in my driveway at 15 ft.  Just saw a 4x4 and a 2x2 yesterday right in my yard again, The rut is going right now it happens every year in between seasons for these delphi deer.

I have seen at least 15 blacktail bucks since sept 1st.  I killed a 5x5 in winthrop on sept. 4th and have seen bigger since.  Opening of rifle I seen 3 bucks one 1x2 a 3x4 and a 4x4 the next day a 2x3 and 2x2 all in the same area along a 2 mile stretch of dirt road. Always wanted to kill a big blacktail but biggest was 3 pt

A buddy in Carnation has had a nice 3x4 chasing doe in his yard for past few days. Wednesday night he was hounding a big doe for over an hour.
I don't think it is uncommon to see rutting at this time for BT. The one I took on 30 Oct 05 was definetly rutting.

Maybe I was in the wrong spots this year.  Only buck I saw was the trike I shot.  Saw a couple spikes being carried out and thats it.  Went out every day after I shot my deer trying to locate a bear and still didn't see any bucks.  Lots of does though.
