686 value?
« on: December 10, 2013, 05:37:10 PM »
Any thoughts on the value of this smith and Wesson 686 .357 magnum? Round count is presumed to be low but it is not known. Gun is in good shape.

I sold mine with a 6inch barrel with factory porting for $500. 99% of gun sellers ask retail, when in fact they're a used gun. I've had 3 on those 686's and are great guns.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I'd say $500. I've seen them for more, but I've bought them for less. $500 seems fair.

I would agree around 500.00 in value with that good of shape. If I was looking to buy it probably 450.00 would get it sold quick. There is a lot of 686 fans so if you hold it for a bit you will probably get 500 for it.

I think 500 should be easy to get for it.  I sold my 6 inch with ported barrel and extras for 625 a little over a year ago.

My good friend is looking to sell it or trade it. He'd like to trade for a nice rifle.

Does it have a lock?
Is it an early no dash gun?
If so, is it "M" stamped for being modified at the factory?
If it does have a dash, which one?
Original box and papers?
How much cylinder play?
Any extras? Holster.. speed loader.. etc..

Anybody who is serious about 686's or knows much about them, will probably ask those questions.
Value is depending the answers to each.

Ill go from what I can see in the picture.. and assume its a newer gun with a lock and no box.
I say $550 is a fair deal and it would sell quickly. I believe they retail for around $729.
But hey.. that's just my  :twocents:

I bought mine for $450, it came with 2 speed loaders and half a box of ammo, a super accurate gun that you have to shoot 75+ yards to really appreciate. Buy it!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

KimberRich is right to point out possibilities.  There are con-e-sur's of S&W revolvers depending on the series of production. It could be worth well more than the $500 average.
