How would I go about training a dog to ignore other stuff in the woods and not go off after a coyote, bird, deer, etc? We have a half boxer half lab that has an amazing nose. We have hidden treats outside and inside and he beats the beagle and lab to it every time. He is still young enough that he has crazy amounts of energy. He has not been out in the woods before. I am afraid to let him loose sometimes. I just dont know how he will react with all the other animals and animal scents. He doesent seem to care much when he sees small animals like rabbits, or when he gets on other dog scent. But when he sees another dog he wants to go play so badly. We have consulted with a trainer about this and have got him to listen pretty well, but thats also when he is on a leash. Any and all tips and opinions?
