Cool pic
« on: January 13, 2014, 08:59:00 PM »
Started using a GoPro this year for the first time in hopes of getting some decent footage/pics.  It's been a steep learning curve: forgetting it at home, forgetting to charge it, forgetting to turn it on... :bash:  I'm finally starting to get the hang of it, and got some good video, and some great pics.  Thought I'd share this one.

Been thinking of dropping the money on one, any advice on do's and don'ts? Besides charging it, bringing it with me, and  turning it on? Do you us the head mount, gun mount? ect...
Thanks in advance.

My thoughts on the GoPro...  I have the one with the remote and wifi, Black Ed I think.  Wifi allows you to use your smart phone as a viewing screen, but it is delayed 3 seconds.  Love the remote, but don't use the wifi.  If I did over again, I'd opt for the GoPro with remote and no wifi.  I think Costco sells that one for $200.  Memory cards come separate and one battery lasts about 1-1.5hrs of filming.

I like the head mount with the wide angle.  If I had two, I'd add one to the front of the blind with a narrower angle.  I also have a dog mount, which is pretty cool if put on and send dog on a retrieve.  Not really something you want to leave on your dog for an entire hunt.

How does the video on the pup look? I have seen some and I get sea sick watching all the bouncing.

Only works good on water retrieves.  Too bouncy otherwise.

Fantastic picture!

I have used my GoPro for just about every hunt this year and have some awesome footage. I used the head mount on a goose hunt but I had it angled wrong so I didn't get the best video. I started putting the GoPro behind the laydown blinds so that you could see the geese and us popping out of the blinds, that worked out really well. I also tried putting the GoPro in the decoy and angled towards where I thought the birds would come and got some great shots.

I use the GoPro Hero 3 Silver addition (without the black remote) and tried using my phone to control the GoPro and it killed that battery in the GoPro and my phone pretty fast, so I stopped using it. Also, I ran into a problem where it would not turn on at all, even with a full battery. It was 14 degrees out so I don't know if it was just to cold or what. It turned on as soon as I got home after shooting 33 mallards  :bash:

I do, but none that I'd want to share for fear of having a crowd waiting for me at one of my favorite spots.

I'm assuming you'd like to see the GoPro on the pup.  I'll put it on her and throw a few marks Friday afternoon and work on sharing the video over the weekend.  How's that sound?

I used mine to video a quail hunt with my Gsp, cool to see the dog go on point but hard to see those dang birds due to how small they are and how fast they fly. I really wan to get some video archery hunting next year.
