coyote hunting near ellensburg

 we want to hunt coyotes this winter, just do not know where would be the best place to go

we would appriciate all responses

Theres lots of public land around there to hunt and there are a lot of coyotes running around.

Dave, Ellensberg has some good public areas and we are coming up on the best months for coyote hunting. But this time of year the coyotes are still scattered somewhat. IMO coyotes will migrate down out of the hills just like any other animal.  When the snow/cold arrives they'll become more concentrated and will go where the food is, not wanting to travel quite as far from the food. Your best bet would be the surrounding areas around any food source such as the orchards,cattle lots etc.(yep they enjoy a hot meal, doesn't matter which end of the cow it comes from)  When you find well used coyote trails leading to or from the food areas you'll know your in the right spot.

we will be heading out in about 2 weeks for the very first time ,I hope to find some open areas around ellensberg, so we can cover more ground, will be shooting a remington 700 varminter special caliber 22-250, it has a 1' diameter bull barrel, bought it about 15 years ago.

still need to buy calls to call in the yotes, anybody have any suggestions as to which calls are the best? I figured some kind of howler,and maybe a rabbit distress call maybe even a fawn bleat call.

We have at least two guys on this site that make calls, Bearmanric and rainshadow1. I dont own ether ones calls YET. they do look like top quality and the guys that have them sure like them. talk with ether one of those guys and Im sure they will get you lined up with what you need. Oh ya their prices are like 1/2 of what they look like there worth, shhhhh dont tell em I said that.  Good luck on the yotes!

I am a bit of a rookie to be offering advice on coyote calls, but I have a preference for Primos' Randy Anderson calls. Perhaps the best part is each call comes with a cd to teach you how to use it.

Better than that, perhaps, is to watch his videos and you can hear how it is done.  I will have to admit that this is the limit (begin and end) of my current coyote hunting expertise, so take the advice for what it may be worth. (It turned out to be worth roughly $1000 to Sportsman's Warehouse, that I got outfitted for coyotes entirely due to watching Randy Anderson videos.)

I like the Lil' Dog call as the easiest to use, and most versatile (two mouthpieces).

From what I understand, "which" calls would be a relatively small factor in success. Many calls will be effective. Calling where coyotes are found, having a favorable wind, using stealth getting into your stand, and remaining as still as possible rank above "calls" in importance, in my humble opinion.
