Ever get the feeling someone is watching you
« on: January 14, 2014, 03:58:11 PM »
Had a funny thing happen tonight. So far I have caught three good sized beaver from one small beaver pond. It's a damage job for a landowner whose road to his back hay fields is under three feet of water. I thought maybe I had them all, or maybe there was some youngsters left. Anyways yesterday I punched a hole in the dam and went back tonight to see if it had been repaired. It hadn't so I figured I had them all. So I spend about 15 minutes and punch a huge hole in the dam. I drop the water level about a foot. Stand up straight and stretch my back and turn around and there about 7 feet behind me is about a 45 pound beaver giving me the evil eye.   :chuckle: :chuckle:    I think I saw it standing there with it's hands on it's hips going WTH?? Bad part is was right in the spot I already caught two other beaver. Would and should have had number 3 in that spot. Oh well I'll take care of it this weekend.

Kind of eerie feeling isn't it?  I had that happen when I was in rib-deep water once while I was carrying mink traps.  There was a 50# beaver about 10' away just staring at me and I was thinking about how it would feel if he torpedoed me and latched on   :yike:

While hunting last year I came within a couple of feet of a Beaver. Neither of us knew the other was there until we both freaked. It leapt into the water and boogied...I thought of both of those news stories as I stood there shaking...imagine, a grown man afraid of a Beaver... :bash:

I was spear fishing for a non-game species of fish,  somehow I had gotten between two beaver and as I came around the bend of the river this beaver swam right up to me.

I didn't even notice as I was looking at fish below, but it must have thought my snorkel was a stick and my brown hair was it's mate.  I noticed it just inches from my head and brought my spear up to it's belly as it looked like it was about to climb aboard....

I jumped up out of the water and fanned my arm yelling "BOO!"    that beaver squeeled!
I never heard one squeel before  :dunno:

then it tail slapped and swam as fast as it could away
