South sound fishing
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:08:38 AM »
Took the boat out and did some fishing and although it was a slow day saw tons of wildlife. We only caught 1 flounder and 2 bullhead bottom fishing. Fished all my summertime holes with nothing producing but bullhead biting bait off. Tried trolling for salmon no luck. But what made the day great was a ton of whales surfacing all around. We must have seen at least 30 . We we stuck where we were and couldn't move for a long time because they started popping up within 25 feet of the boat. Didn't like them that close being in a little 16 foot john boat but boy was it a sight.
I need to get me a camera to take with me hunting and fishing for these reasons.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

Whales are a cool sight   I've had them swim under my boat (15' Baycraft) and even surface right next to the boat a few times. Orcas are meaning of the wilds of the water

Awesome!  I had a whale go under my boat while crabbing.  Definitely makes you want a bigger boat.

I've only lived in WA for just over 5 years now, but in that time I average 1-4 days a week on the water south of the narrows. I've never seen as many whales down here as this year, but for whatever the reason they have been in ever increasing numbers since fall.

Love the orcas. they would fish the rifts next to us when I was a kid around the San Juan's. had them surface feet from the boat at times. enjoy them & know they follow the fish. how cool is it to be within a few feet of something so big that is wild
& aren't hunting you. had them surface next to the 10' dingy & just wanted to touch them. memories!!
