Anyone hear any thing about northern movement?????
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:50:51 PM »
Please post any rumors about movement from the north.
I checked a couple of other sites and there was "talk" of possible movement but nothing in hard core evidence.

I've heard some of the same reports as well. I know that some of the mallards that we shot on sunday up north of mt vernon looked to be northern birds. Lots of extra fat on them, real bright, nice looking birds. They tasted amazing as well

I talked to the local Waterfowl Biologist a couple days ago and he said the migration on my area just started Nov. 17th   I saw a huge increase in birds (mostly mallards/GWT) on Saturday and now of multiple limmits killed.

Hit up an area north of moses lake on saturday.  Pretty dead.  Light ice on small ponds.  Got 2 mallards and only seen about 50 total.  Did see a few geese and a few hen pheasant.

dead here today, small ponds are iced up, but no birds on big water...

Starting to get a little ticked, saw a lot of geese last week but only a few today.

Frustrated to say the least.
That's why it's called hunting and not killing.

Went out last Sunday and on Thanksgiving around Granger.  I saw more buffleheads and goldeneyes than mallards.  We got 10 ducks total, only 3 were mallards, and all of those were locals.  I saw 3 flocks of about 100 mallards flying really high overhead.  I think Thanksgiving week was the very tip of the migration.  The majority of the migration will probably begin arriving in the 2nd or 3rd week of December.

I heard the goose migration is in full swing though, so if you know a good goose spot I would hit that this weekend before it's too late.

Hunted Goose in Finley on Saturday....Didn't see a single flight of geese. Only heard about 4 volleys of shots out on the river. Pretty weak.

Hunted Pheasant Friday, hit a Prescott FFTH, one near Starbuck and one in Pomeroy....flushed 4 hens. Pretty disapointing weekend, good to be out no less.....

its been all local birds for me...I have seen some big flights of geese though...once the lakes and ponds up north start freezing up we'll all be a little better off...It just hasnt been that cold yet and the birds are still finding food and water where they are...what we need is some cold cold weather and maybe some more snow in Canada... :twocents:

I went out last weekend on the eastside and we got 3 mallards and 4 canadians on the columbia.  It was pretty slow.  I just spoke with my father in law that lives over there and he is starting to see a lot more high flyers coming in this week.  Cross your fingers, maybe they are coming this way.

I just spoke with my father in law and he limited yesterday on geese by 10:00am and he is already back at the house with another limit.  I got wrapped into working and was unable to get over to the eastside.
