Shed Hunting Tips
« on: February 22, 2014, 02:06:00 PM »
Howdy,

New guy here. I'm a military transplant from the Midwest, so I don't know very much about elk. I recently decided that I should go out and find some sheds and do some scouting for future seasons. I've gone out a few times in the western Olympic National Forest, mostly walking brushy flats along rivers. I've found plenty of tracks, scat, rubs, etc but no sheds. Do I just need to keep at it? Am I looking in the right place? Too early? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Keep at it and keep looking down. Will be old sheds. Another month till elk start dropping fresh though :twocents:

Look for where elk trails cross logs, steep banks, etc where they might jump across. The impact when they jump knocks the antlers loose.
