  30 Min Delays On Sat At Downtown Boat Launch For Clean up.

Just got my boat repowered and was up breaking in on Stevens yesterday.  Now to rig for fishing.  I like that westlaunch. 

If you see a fat-bearded man in a 16.5 Tyee II Lund say hi.  Just gotta get rigged now as I've got nothing but ocean salmon setups and some trout poles.

Little rainy this am but there were fish to be had. Started off with three right away then slowed down a bit. Started picking up a few nicer fish later in the morning.

Agreed. We are getting most of our fish off long lines. I'm running my downriggers just a few feet under the surface. Hit last week on green and blue and our biggest came from a mini speckled orange hoochie with a double hook. Shoe peg of course and I baiting with Dick Nite scent and krill. Last weekend we did well at the mouth of the west cove, along the 70 foot depth to and around the arretor (sp?).

H2O, do you run a short leader off your flasher when using hoochies?

After reading a Kokanee blog last year, I started using a small green winged bobber with chrome wings with good success in place a of hoochie on one rod and the other either flasher/hoochie or flasher (longer leader) double Whammy. Then switch to which ever they are hitting that day.

We do. This trip in particular on Saturday I got some good action on a Dick Nite dodger and blue mini squid. I cut the tentacles a bit to shorten it up. On lures with no action of their own, hoochie, fly, etc, I like a shorter leader so it really flicks around back there. On the spinners I go longer since they have their own action.

One thing that we did just goofing around that resulted in a few hooks ups was to keep one of the rods with a long line in hand. As we would troll we would bring the rod up to speed up the bait, then drop it back. Three times we hooked up on the drop. The erratic action triggers a strike at times.

I do the same by making sharp "S" turns, the pole on the inside of the turn slows while the outside speeds up. If fishing by my self I will even do complete circles to sink the presentation.

How early do I need to get launched to avoid the rush?

We launched @ about 3:15 last year and were NOT the first boat in the water....we are gonna launch by 3am this year. We had fish in the box before 4am last year. Hopin to do he same this year since there will pribly be 5 guys in the boat versus the 3 we had last year. Parking gets pretty rediculous the later you launch.

Got it....I assume no overnight parking in case I want to just sleep on the boat?

Not real sure on that. We were considering the same thing. I would gues that you could just park on the road and be ok. We will be hitting the lake probly tomorrow and friday morning so I can check the sign at the launch and let you know.
