2000 Ford Ranger
« on: March 16, 2014, 09:17:33 PM »
Just Bought a 2000 ford ranger and its the Newest truck ive Ever owned, So i want to keep it decent before it turns in to a work truck.  Im looking for a decent Priced Brush guard cause it seems to be i kill more animals with my trucks than i do out hunting. Also Im looking for a Lumber rack Perferably One that you can have a canopy on and have the Rack on. Not looking to kill the bank account but it seems like brand new is out of my Wallet Range. And most Accessories that will fit or make a 2000 ford ranger Look or drive or sound better id probably be interested in.

What engine does it have?
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Good.  I was afraid it had that 3.0 V6.  That 4.0 has lots of pep, and will burn more gas, but it's a better engine.  :twocents:

yeah i had a 94 Ranger with the 3.0 and you could feel the loss of power on hills and Such, but it was a reliable truck and good gas mileage. but it wasn't a 4wd which is something i wanted. Been restricted on where i could go in fear of getting stuck (Especially out hunting).

I wouldn't recommend buying a brush guard if you hit a lot of animals. It is proven that a brush guard will do more damage to your truck than not having a brush guard. If you are willing to spend money then invest in an after market bumper. You can find decent bumpers for 300-800 dollars.

Just to clarify, I have never been a fan of the 3.0 engine, as much as I love Rangers.  My '86 Ranger and my '90 Bronco II both have the 2.9 V6 and 5 speed manual transmission.  I had a '91 Ranger 4x4 pickup, and it got 27 mpg on the highway.  Not a powerhouse, (2.9 V6) but got great gas mileage.  The 2.9 engine got replaced by the 3.0 in '92, and was a disaster from the word go.  You must have gotten a good one, because my neighbor bought a newer Ranger with a 3.0, and the engine puked about a month later. The 3.0 engine was dropped in '09....  :twocents:

My brother has hadd a 99 4wd stick 4.0L. He has used and abused it since it was new. He is finally needing to put some real TLC into it. Its a great tough truck and you won't be disapointed. It will last a really long time especially if it leads a easier life than a wheeling rig, from day one...  :twocents:

I had the garage do a tuneup on my '91 Ranger mainly because I had a guilty conscience because it had been so long since I did anything to it!  It ran better before the tuneup, I think....
