Depends where u hunt in 101... I don't hunt anywhere near Curlew and all my areas are not overrun with deer. Of all the places I hunt in 127,105 and 117 it has the fewest deer on my cams.

Deer numbers are down in 101 but that's nothing new.  I don't spend much time in 121.

Wrong answer there. We are overrun by whitetails. PM the people that live here and don't ask people who don't. Seems like the westsiders know more than the locals, typical...

:dunno: calling me a westsider?  That hasn't been true since 2002   :chuckle:

I spend the majority of my weekends in 101 and have cameras hanging in the Eastern areas of that unit for 10 months of the year and I hunt archery through modern in that unit so I'm not swinging blindly here.

Obviously we're talking about opposite ends of a huge GMU so I guess I should have clarified that I meant areas closer to the river.  I figured since he was asking about 101, 108, and 121 that he meant to hunt all three areas which would probably preclude hunting the Curlew area.

Glad to hear you're up to your shoulders in deer in Curlew
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

The deer were EXTREMELY skiddish last fall in our hunting area in 101. We also found some big cat tracks close by which all makes sense. We had some good bucks on our camera, so they were around. I'm thinking maybe if we would have spent more time there we might have had a chance at getting something. It was very evident the deer were on red alert at all times more than I've ever seen in the past. No wolf tracks though  :) ...yet

Having spent many seasons in a tree stand in 101, you are describing how the deer act whenever a cat camps out in the immediate area.  Hyper alert all the time, hard to get a shot, wont stand still, head going all the time......jumpy. jumpy.......

I wish more guys would take advantage of cat and bear hunting in the n.e. part of the state.........now thats how you find your deer spot ahead of time !!!!  Bag some grouse too.
Totally agree! I had a deer tag, but lost my mojo to shoot one because of the predator sign. My focus switched to looking for cats & canine (it was getting kinda late for bears) I would have been just as happy shooting a predator as I would if I had gotten a deer. I will do the same for this year as well. I think the odds of getting a cat these days are pretty good.
$5 is a lot of money if you ain't got it
