Neah Bay Jetty/breakwater
« on: March 26, 2014, 04:10:01 PM »
I am thinking heading to Neah Bay or La Push Jetty fishing this summer, which I have never done it before. I want to know if I need to hire a guide to fish off the jetty or not. I did some research about it, nothing has mentioned I need a local tribal guide. I used to fish at WestPort Washington. I got my limit fast but I dont like the fact that I only catch greenling and perch.
Anybody have an advise or want to join me for rockfish feel free to let me know. I dont fish with rod when fishing for rock fish, I like hiking on the jetty and constantly change my fishing spot. If anybody want to tag along in my small car (aka minimal gear) let me know.

I'm not sure what jetty your are talking about at Neah bay. They have the rock dividing wall from the bay to the sound but I don't think they will let you go out there and I doubt the fishing is any good.

I don't think there is one that I can remember out of La Push either, but I could be wrong about that.

That's what I thought you were referring to. I don't think they give access to go out there. You can call Big Salmon and they would be able to tell you yes or no.

Huge ling cod in the rocks off the jetty going out to Waadah. We fished out of a boat. Don't know how you would land one of those monsters from the shore.

The jetty in la push doesn't go out that far. Probably could catch salmon off the right side but ocean side I'm not sure.  It sucks to walk though, I've had to carry heavy crap to the end and back and it's not fun. I have seen some locals fishing off it though

Last year I went up to Neah Bay in March to fish from the breaker wall because my cousin's friend said you could go there and buy a tribal permit and fish for sea bass, greenling and cabezon with no limit from shore. Supposedly fishing there that early in the season was like shooting fish in a barrel too. Anyhow, made the drive all the way up there and found out they closed it to all non tribal fishing the week before.  Lady at the main store said that several guys pretty much camped out and just slaughtered the bottom fish nonstop for several days and thats why they decided to close it. You'd think they could have just fixed the problem by having an actual limit on the bottomfish. No idea if they opened it back up this year or not.

That is sucks! In such case thanks a lot to those who slaughter the fishes and ruined it for everyone...
