buffleheads
« on: November 24, 2008, 09:29:58 AM »
Has any one else been seeing a whole lot of buffle heads, so far we have killed 51 ducks this year and 30 of them have been buffle heads...seems like they just keep coming and coming...and I want to let them just land and hope for some mallards but I cant help myself :chuckle:...they are a lot of fun to shoot at...and the drakes are a real pretty bird... hopefully this cold front that has started will bring down some more mallards my way...any way, just wondering what the majority of everyones birds have been.

we're probably hunting the same areas, but yeah.

Been seeing a lot of the buzz bombs, great to pick drakes out for practice, not so good on the palette though.
That's why it's called hunting and not killing.

I've been seeing a lot of buffleheads and common goldeneyes.  Half of the birds we have been shooting are common goldeneyes and buffleheads.  The other half are mallards and teal.

They are a little strong but I brest them out and they make great fajitas same with goldeneyes.  Cut them up in bite sized strips saute till cooked through add onions and red bell peppers when they start to get translucent add chili powder and salsa to make a sauce.  Serve on tortias with cheese, avacado and sour cream.  Most meats get lost in the seasoning, buffs and whisters will come through.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

good luck cleaning them hahaha they are a bitch to clean because their skin is like leather!  i'm going to avoid shooting those stupid things from now on just because of how hard they are to clean.

It's been about 90% teal, 5% mallards, and 5% widgeon for us.
