They actually make a pretty nice pet.  You just have to remember to stroke their fur the right way when you pet them!  :chuckle:

That's pretty cool and a different animal to look at here. It also looks like it had to teach something a lesson that came in from behind.

Beautiful pictures, well done.

Porcupines are really funny if you watch them for a while. They just waddle around and do their own thing and don't really care what's going on around them. I shot a lot of them around here for a few years. They were killing a lot of trees and a few dogs were showing up with quills in their nose. I've cut back to just one a year now. They reproduce and mature so slowly that I made a noticeable dent in the population.

They make great stew meat though if you ever have the urge to eat one.

One of my favorite crtters! If you walk up them and step on they're tail, you can have a real close look without getting hurt. I took some cool video of my buddy scratchin one under the chin on long island. He was in an apple tree and we played with him for about an hour. Love them little guys

Back in the day we used to murder them ruthlessly... we ran hounds and the porkies were just a major pain to us... Nowadays, being a little more conservation minded... I feel like an ass for having killed so many. They are a good little critter. They serve a purpose like the rest of em... and they are neat. We kept one in a cage for a few months years ago to train the dogs with ("shock therapy")... they make some really neat noises and he got really friendly when he realized I was his source of food...

I have some pics here somwhere maybe I can add to the thread. My bird dog and I treed a couple last year and got some good pics. (he also got his butt whooped cause he wanted to get these guys...and that was after having a bad run in two years ago that I had to deal with for several months!)

Whatever you do, don't "lasso" the porky.   I did and took one for a walk.   They walk like a cat as it's more of a drag.... and the leash is kinda hard to get off once you release the porky.
