If a couple of dogs died from the bacteria in Cowlitz County, I don't see why wolves would not be affected also.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I was thinking the same thing. Once wolves get over here and start eating all the sick elk, are the wolves going to die from the disease as well?

Good  :yeah:

If the bacteria is transferable to humans and people get any sort of infection or their toenails start to twist up.  A hefty lawsuit would be in the works.  People would sue them for selling tags to hunt infected animals that pose a health risk to humans.  Same as if I bought a defective product that injured me.  They would probably have a class action lawsuit against them.

Some information on Leptospirosis.  Looks like the primary means of transmission is through contaminated water/contact with urine.

pretty disturbing, i feel really bad for those elk suffering from this, no animal should have to endure something like this, especially if it is caused by man, which i beleive its a direct affect from herbacides or pesticides.... i also beleive this is an avenue for them to deploy wolves to the effected areas, i could see this easily happening, i also beleive they know exactly what causes this and they dont want to let the cat out of the bag :twocents:
The ideas about leptospirosis are nearly a theory, with no evidence what so ever.  There is also no known link to pesticides

I don't think that is the transmission agent.  I think people would have to drink the raw urine of an infected animal.

From the article: "Leptospirosis is contagious to humans and can be contracted by as little as touching the skin or hide of an infected animal.
If left undiagnosed and untreated, leptospirosis and its complications often prove fatal to humans."
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Dr. Mora went to great lengths to qualify his statements, can you do the same ????  If so, we're all ears ................

Had  " this article " corroborated with wdfws explanations,  I'd have had some reservations, however since it is in opposition of wdfw, it may have merit.

Thank you for the research and article.  Hopefully it gets the attention of WDFW in a positive way whether forcing their hand or otherwise.  When bureaucrats turn down free research, because they are too busy protecting their fiefdom, I get pretty frustrated and that seems to be what this about.  Protecting Turf.

This is alarming to read because of the implications to people. I am again amazed that WDFW is refusing to allow an outside person or group to assist them with the investigation of a sensitive issue. Clearly it supports the belief that they want to control access to facts to those who they can manage or censor.  What other reason would there be to refuse free assistance from qualified, competent sources on so many of their projects while, at the same time, bemoaning their lack of funding for that very project?  I hope the doctor is allowed to help. The people and elk of Washington deserve the help.

It took them two years to accept free money from the RMEF to cover research costs. They've got their hands so deep in the pockets of big timber and their heads so far up their butts that it's a wonder we have animals to hunt at all. We do, right?
