Budget camo decision?

Wannabe hunter here.

I have plenty of hiking/backpacking compatible gear and clothes, including a decent pair of mountain boots. I also have some entry level Vortex binoculars and a 30-06 on the way. I have never hunted before.

Given that, if you had $200 to spend on hunting-specific gear for hunting deer in the mountains and woods of Washington like camo and such, how would you spend it?

I will likely wind up in the Cascades, but might make it out to the east side, too. I don't know yet.

Boots and a compass . If you're rifle hunting camo isn't really necessary.

No camo needed. You might want to pick up a couple pairs of military surplus wool pants. You can find them for as low as $15 or $20 each. Try the Sportsman's Guide.

Good rain gear is important. With your budget you won't be buying anything Gore Tex, so I would recommend going to a logging supply store and buying what the loggers use. Watershed is a good brand and made in the USA. Pants will be about $40 to $50 and a jacket the same. Also don't forget to get a cheap orange vest. Walmart should have a good supply of those.

I've got a decent pair of boots so I will focus on the orange and the wool and rain protection. Thanks for the logging supply suggestion -- I would have never thought of that.

40 years ago when I was on a "budget" I retired my military camo to hunting camo.  Actually, I felt like I gave them a promotion to a higher calling.  Spare no expense on your feet.  Good quality waterproof lightweight boots will be your friend.  In my budget years I found some pretty decent stuff at yard sales as well.  Last year I picked up a brand new Army duffle for $5.  They're great for keeping hunting gear separate and in one place.  I still drop in to Army surplus stores once in a while and pick up a thing or too.  Spend a couple bucks on wash that has a UV killer or UV spray.  If you do a little internet research on Deer and UV light you may be surprised at UV and the clothes you wear.  Look ahead to next year and take advantage of seasonal close-out sales at stores that sell hunting gear.  My favorite store is the White Elephant in Spokane.  I've picked up some pretty good gear there at decent prices.  A ways to go, yes.  But, if I happen to be in the area, I always stop in.

I just picked up a pair of military camo pants at Goodwill last weekend for $7.99. Looked brand new! An equivalent pair of pants like them would be at least $40 to $50.
