My friend Todd and I hit Cape Flattery last weekend on our little paddle boats. You know the ones where everyone remarks we're going to die it's too dangerous for those boats... LOL
On the way to camp we hit the halibut spot and sure enough Todd hooked into one and had a 90 minute battle until his braided line broke. We suspect the fish was tail wrapped and somehow the line became damaged. Oh well..
We went back to a secluded beach and took a lunch break watching our buddies struggle in the current.

After that we paddle up past the rock gardens, fishing along the way picking up some lingcod and rockfish. We passed the Fuca Pillar and got into the turbulent waters near the Cape and made our way into a secluded and hidden beach for camp. No motor boat access here - too many boulders. Perfect for our little sea kayaks though.

After a short dinner we paddled beyond the Cape Flattery trail lookout and tossed rubber jigs for more rocks and lings. We did manage to find both in abundance, tossing the smaller specimens back.
In the morning we paddled directly across to the south end of Tatoosh Island amidst the bubbling water. It wasn't red hot there but we did pick up some greenling and were trying to get surf perch in the caves. We paddled back across to the Cape and went into and out of some of the caves there fishing some more. After a while we crossed to Tatoosh again and hit the west side of the island. Strong current, rips at this time of morning and not for new kayakers. I got bit by a ling, chased by a seal and survived. A great spring outing. Except for dropping my camera on the second day. Lost a bunch of images and video.
