permit question.

So looking in the regs. They have a new permit for willipa NR. 3 tags for a cow elk. Season 2-8. What is up with the tag. The island is 3pts min or antlerless. Is there otherwise areas they open up with this tag that are usually closed?

The way I read it is the Refuge isn't normally open for hunting so you would be one of three hunters in that area at that given time. I might be wrong but that would be the first time this year! :chuckle:

The areas that will be open are portions of unit 684 that are only open for waterfowl hunting normally.  Often times the elk move into those areas and are off limits to everyone.  I think this is an attempt to try to move them around a little.  If it were an any elk permit, there probably would be some good opportunities at some nice bulls too.

I normally hunt down there for early archery but due to the fact that to many city folk and rayoner timber i dont anymore. The refuge is normally open for hunting except a few spots. I guess from what i heard that there are a few cases of hoof rot in the refuge. Its thick country and hard hunting. I miss it down there untill all the people come out of the wood work. I remember only seeing the same people every year untill a few years ago then all the big 5th wheel trailers showing up at your normally camping spot.  :bash:
