My kid pulled this tag and we have a total of 9 days we have been out. Haven't found any bears or even fresh sign. Any ideas?

There are bear scattered throughout the unit. When they first come out in the spring they are looking for the greenest grass but will begin eating other types of food the longer they are out, plus there is grass everywhere by now so it's getting tough to concentrate on grass now. Swamps, rockslides, dead animals, areas with rotten logs, and other areas with lots of insects are always good places to look. Boars will start courting sows anytime now and for that reason will begin traveling more. As a rule bear will try to avoid human activity. Cover lots of ground in the more remote areas watching for tracks in mud and scat on the ground. Once you find fresh tracks/scat concentrate on those areas. If you don't already have a DNR map, get one and study it. GOOD LUCK

Get out and walk some roads that you wouldnt drive down. Slow and always looking, stopping to glass anything that even looks close to a piece of animal. Look for color, partial body shapes and horizontal body lines and vertical leg lines.
Theres sign most everywhere now once you get away from the main roads......3K on up around here, stuff is growing fast, so its time to be out.....hunt all day......glass til dark.

Exactly what I've been doing. Seen a ton of animals behind locked gates. Got to see my first cougar and picked up a lot of sheds. Dale gave me some more ideas to try and I'm already looking into it. Ran into some turkey hunters early in the season and they said they have drawn that tag a few times and have never seen one. Will keep after.. thanks everyone

I have received four calls in the last week and a half about problem bears in the Gifford area. I have seen the WDFW gamie truck towing a bear trap two times in the last week. One lady talked with the local gamie and he said ALL the bear traps were being used. PM me. I can give you the phone number of the warden that is chasing these bear... Good luck. Attached is a recent bear pic by a salt block

HOLY CRAP!!! After I posted the reply , I went up the road about a mile to take down a turkey blind and replace a chip in my camera. I decide to try to call in a coyote while I was up there. I put out my Fox Pro and turned it to a whitetail doe distress. About 4 minutes go by and I see something at the top of the clearing.. TWO BEAR were coming in hot!! A beautiful tri-colored and a jet black. Both over 250# As soon as I saw them coming I turned off the call. The tri-colored disappeared into the trees after standing up (nice white blaze ). The black sat down and started sniffing the air. after 5 min. the black started heading down the hill towards me. He was about 200yds. Did not want them in my lap so I started to whistle real low. He heard me and trotted into the timber. Of course I left my camera at home!! DANG!!
I sent a PM to hedhntr
