Kifaru Bikini/Nomad
« on: June 07, 2014, 02:05:46 PM »
I'm about scary close to cashing in the ole 401K on a Bikini/Nomad combo. I've pretty much narrowed it down to what system/pieces I want but I thought I'd see if anybody has any recommendations. I'm looking at adding the LH top pack and the grab it II as well as a small belt pouch or two.

Anyways, If anybody has one and cares to share what they like/dislike I'm all ears before I make the call next week.

I have that exact set up. Bikini Nomad, Longhunter lid, Grabit II, and Nomad Gun bearer. I've been using it for training hikes twice a week for the last few months, and I really like it. I've packed it many different ways, and the versatility is amazing. It gets really small with day hunt gear, and can expand to haul almost anything. The Bikini suspension is very comfortable, and hauls weight real well. I'm taking it on its first multi day hike in a couple of weeks, and I'm excited to use it for more than training.

glad to hear it! I have the older BL 2800 and love it. I'm basically trying to copy that design. It suits my needs well but after 8 years it's getting pretty worn.

I have the Bikini Frame and DT1 Bag.  For my style of hunting it works great.  If I was to order today I may trade the DT1 for the Nomad.

I have the high camp 7k and a nomad.  Both ride on my 26" duplex.  I still think the duplex is better for my load hauling needs.  Other than that you can't go wrong.

I like the Nomad, but I LOVE the EMR2...the only disadvantage is that some guys like to "dump" there bag.  But for me, I'll take the extra CUI over that feature.  I don't even know when I'd actually do that...Anyways, not trying to stir the pot, you've chosen a great product, from a great company.

The EMR II May be a better way to go. I may end up with one. I chose the Nomad for the versatility. I really like rifle carrying options and the ability to drop camp without unpacking the bag.

The nomad is the spike camp hunters dream.  If I was going to be bivying out then I would have the Emr II.

Well, I hope I didn't stub my toe by pulling the trigger on the new Exo Mountain 3500 in ASAT yesterday.  The Kifaru Bikini/Nomad looked like the proven small pack with frame I was looking for but instead of a company in biz for 36 years I went with the newbie Exo Mountain just to try something new.  When I get it I may dump 50 lbs in it and try to follow Silk up his mountain and see how it stacks up against the bikini.

Early reviews are good but is there first time making a pack so there is sure to be a few kinks to work out.  I hate being an early adopter of new technology or new manufacturers.  I made an exception with the nomad due to Kifaru's track record.  Let us know how you like the exo.

Steve and company seem pretty committed to making a good product. They went with a different frame but early reviews claim a quality belt with functional load lifters which is a dang good place to start!

Where ya located at magnum?

Ha! Now I'm tracking J! I don't know if it's worth the drive to come up here for our little training hill. Should be pretty fun trip for you guys, make sure to send some pictures when it's all said and done.

If you do make it north Id like to get some hands on that pack.
