Archery vs Muzzy vs Modern
« on: June 12, 2014, 08:12:13 AM »
Hey all,

Now that results are out and I see that I did not draw any elk permits, I will be using my multiseason elk tag to its fullest today. The last few years I have been strictly archery hunting, and the years before that I was primarily rifle hunting elk. This will be my first year muzzy hunting as well. I am going to hunt all three seasons, but only have so much vacation I can use, with my wedding taking up a good portion of it this summer. I don't see myself using much of it for rifle season.

I know a lot of it will depend on the weather, but should I focus most of my time sticking with archery (where it seems to be a little early for the rut where I hunt) or have most found that the SE bulls have been rutting during muzzy?

Not asking for any advice, just asking a hypothetical, "what would you do question" so I can try to get my vacation days requested sooner rather than later.

Thanks for all and any responses.

And a big congrats to all of those who drew permits!

I switched to muzzy hunting last year less for trying to hunt during the rut more for the fact that there are less folks in the field. It is so nice to not bump elbows with every other bubba out there, and not have them scare away animals you are stalking  :bash: .............like last season............  :bash: Plus I am much more confident with a muzzy than a bow. Enjoy your multiseason tag!!! The best part of the season is just getting out there and hunting!

Thanks Bookworm, I agree. I plan on being out every weekend, but one, of elk season. Just trying to figure out which season to burn my vacation on. Have had a lot of luck getting into elk with the archery tag, but they are never rutting in my area and there are quite a few people. Will be new to muzzy hunting, but excited for the challenge.
