Lake Chelan Lures for Lake Trout

Anyone willing to give me a tip on a good spoon or squid to drag for Lakers on Chelan? I have downriggers, and am excited to go give it a try! Also, any tips for Kings or Kokanee? I have some spoons we used in Erie in the past, probably would work here as well. I figure I'd start fishing in 100' and work my way deeper, keeping the ball about 5' off the bottom, with about 10' of line behind the ball at 1.5mph. Shoot me a pm, thanks for the help.

We used them qwikfish lookin things red with black spots, ill see if I can locate a photo. Fish deep deep deep and sllllloooowwww !!

I see most fish 200'+....are there abundant lakers in the 100'+ range?

Rocky Point... basically 5-10 feet off the bottom (200'-250' in that area)

wiggle fin with Ace hi-flys are what seem to work for me.

you can use jointed quick fish too

I'm guessing you mean Erie as in Lake Erie in the Great Lakes. I use to visit my dad In michigan every summer and fish the Great Lakes.

Well, I bought some lures.....
Brads KF-14 KillerFish
Brads Extreme wobbler spoon
Ace Hi-Flys
And assortment of Jensen dodgers
Got some small squids and fire corn for the Kokanee

Do guys run a dodger with the Hi Flys? Also saw to put some pikeminnow meat on the hi fly...I saved some meaty rib cages from filetting some perch and walleye, Wonder if I cut that up into fishing size chunks if that would work instead of pikeminnow?

Pike minnow are used because you can catch some at the dock & its a primary food for the Macks in the lake....if u don't have pikeminnow just buy a tray of herring or anchovies as they are really oily and give off a lot of scent...or just used NW bait & scent-herring scent (u can get it at hooked on toys)...if you have the July 2012 (I think) issue of STS theirs an article in there that details the entire fishery.

I will try & PM you later with more info....my dad is a retired guide on the lake...in a nut shell used the dodger with 30# leader 20 inches to the Ace Hi-fly (wipe the scent on dodger & fly) and keep it within 10 ft of the bottom...their is a underwater island/hump in front of sunnybank nicknamed "Mack Island" or try just off of Wapato Point trolling back to chelan...we do good right around the 160' bottom depth.

The 30# leader really whips the hi fly that's why I recommend it...also for main line its best to use 50# braid as it cuts through the water and u have less false releases with that much line out...troll 1.2 to 2 mph...once in a while bang the downrigger ball off the bottom...the secret it to keep your gear within 10 feet of the bottom.....

For kokanee find the March & April issues of Northwest Sportsman as they detailed the fishery...

Not sure what size dodgers u have...I use the 11"...also the kf14 plug u got will work all by itself...just make sure u scent it up or use a herring wrap...and keep it within 10' of the nottom...can't stress that enough..

Yes...but you'll need to shorten them as they come pretty long...I like the gamakatsu ones... 1/0-2/0 hooks.

This is the week! Looks like I am finally gonna try it. We are gonna launch at the State Park and try off of Wapato Point to start. Hope the weather holds.....
