Iam not realy concerned with me getting one this year, with my dad getting draw and this going to be his last year to hunt do to his MS and being 65 years old  he has never shot a elk i realy want to get him his first elk and make it a great hunt for him!!! Was hoping he would get drawn for bull with all the points he has but he didn't so cow will just have to do.

It Definitely Has Gotten Harder Over The Years!  I Remember When I Started hunting A Cow Permit Was Guaranteed Elk Down On The First Day Of Cow Season.  Not Anymore.  Yet They Are Giving Out More Tags now :bash:
They Sure Scatter Fast.  I'll Also Let You Know What I Find.  Just remind Me When It Gets close :chuckle:

We lucked out in our camp and picked up about two percent of the overall 500 permits that they issued for rifle this year we have 9 cow tags out of the 9 guys in our camp hopefully we can have some meat on the ground this year. The last time we drew multiple cow tags in camp we ate our tags so I'm not overly confident about it being a drop in the bucket like it used to be but plan to put in the time to make it pay off this year. I've been hunting the same place for twenty-one years now so it won't be a matter of not knowing the area it's just tough to find them come Wednesday after they are scattered about from the spike hunters some years and the weather plays into it some also.

We got lucky with three cow tags as well!  It has been about seven years since I hunted that area.  We have ate a few cow tags out of that unit before so lets hope for the best and some weather to go with it!  Maybe we will get lucky and have some elk meat down this year!  Best of luck to all that drew!

3 of 5 in our camp pulled cow tags this year too .  I'm glad we got this them this year.  Last year we saw the least amount of elk in the 10+ years we've been hunting the 340.   :dunno:

The cow hunts in the Manastash used to be almost a easy kill when we started our hunt in the 2nd week of November, always had snow and elk running everywhere. One day they be on the bottom, next day up top in the flats. Hunted there for 33 years, too many people now and the hunt is too early. Quit hunting the East side for elk when my hunting partner of 33 years passed away. We killed a lot of elk there, but the hunt went to SHAT we they made our season earlier. I now hunt the West side and have connected 4 years in a row. Probably a lot of luck but me and my wife go out and hunt hard every day of the season until we connect.

The hunting there is not as bad as most would say. If you stay within a mile of the roads chances are you'll see a few running around.if you go where most won't you'll fill your tags in any season I hunt them all.burn some leather and have a good pack.or packers.there there you just have to work a little harder then years before.good luck to all. Who drew permits if u need help let me know my daughters and I will help it might cost you a steak lol.
