I was very lucky to watch twin cougar kittens several times over 4 days from a distance of 50 to 60 feet. After seeing them the first time, I was a bit concerned as to where mama was as I had walked in to this spot in the dark. I never did see the female. They never did know I was there and I watched them playing, making a very faint whistle sound and one of them climbed a tree about 6 feet chasing a squirrel. I thought they weighed about 15 to 18 lbs and were about 2 months old. I shared the photos with the WDFW cougar biologist and he thought the age was about right. Interesting that I can't see any spots and I looked with binoculars from that close range. Also interesting to me is the fact there was a female and two approximately 60 lb sub-adults killed just a mile and a half from this den in Aug of this year. Interesting that two females would be living so close to each other. The pictures were taken with a cell phone and the camera wanted to focus on the tree limb that was about 20 feet in front of me. I couldn't get to my other camera at the time.
