Winchester 243
« on: June 23, 2014, 03:29:14 PM »
Question as I am mainly an archer. I have a Winchester Model 70 243, Houge stock, Butler Creek sling, Bushnell 4x12 scope. I bought this gun about 16 years ago from a pawn shop in Idaho for my kids to use to hunt with when they were younger and couldnt shoot a 40# bow. The gun has been a gem and is in great shape, all my boys killed their 1st deer with it. I'm curious what a gun like this is worth? I know the sentimental value is huge!
I'm mainly curious as I know there are gun nuts on this site.. Thanks in advance. Sean

Depends on the model, grade, condition and year. FWIW, the scope and sling are not going to increase the value much at all so I wouldn't put too much stock, no pun intended, in those.

XTR will be around $500, Featherweight will increase value a couple hundred from there and pre 64 will increase it substantially as well. :twocents:

If memory serves me right, the Ranger model was Winchesters "economy" model. There is not a thing wrong with them, they work and shoot excellent. They came with a non fancy piece of beech wood for a stock. I would place the value in the $350 range if sold private party, if you trade it in, gun shops probably will try to get it for well under $300. I'd keep it for the memories.

Agreed, if it is a Ranger Model 70 you will be down to the $350-$400 range.
