Takhlakh Lake, council lake ????'s
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:04:45 AM »
i am thinking about taking the family up in this area by mt adams, i have a few questions if anyone can help that would be great..
how is the fishing on these lakes?
looks like their is more lakes around too!!!
is their any camping close by the lakes that is not in campgrounds?
if i have to drive a few miles to fish the lakes that is no problem, i would prefer to camp in an unimproved spot off the side of the road somewhere,
also what tips for fishing the lakes in the area? spinners? fly?
i have both setups with pontoon boats as well.
any advice, help, suggestions would be great.
thanks in advance

Althoe I havent fished Takhlakh for a long thime the fishing there used to be good. I have also fished horeshoe wich is about 5 miles from Takhlakh. Flys work well there.
You wont have any problem finding camping spots and the views up there are awsome.

How's the snow up there?   Anyone been up road 56 or 2329 recently?  I had heard 2329 was closed through last month due to snow.  Seems like everywhere is melting out late this year, but I haven't been down around Randle yet this year.

I have camped and fished Council lake several times.  You have to get there early to get a spot to camp before the weekend.  Sorry I don't know of any places to camp outside of the designated areas.  The fishing is good on Council in the evenings.  I took my daughter with me out on the raft and we hammerd the bows with a black wolly bugger slowly dragging behind the boat.  There is also a great hiking trail that takes you above the lake with an awesome view of Mt Adams. Its a great place.  I highly recommend it!

Thanks Turkeyman.  And to think it's almost August.

It's been awhile since I fished up there, but I'm sure one thing hasn't changed. MOSQUITO'S. Don't forget the repellant!

Takhlakh is still a great lake to fish.  I take my 6 year old up their all the time and we hammer them by just dragging a worm along the bottom.  Spinners, flies, they all work great!  Tons of places to camp up there!

That's what I remember about Takhlakh.  Our family calls it Mosquito Lake.  If it's quiet enough you can hear the high pitched hum of all those mosquitos.

Anyone fished Takhlakh lake recently (last year)?  Campground is supposed to be open this weekend, was planning to go up in the area doing a little Elk scouting.  Thought I might combine a fishing trip.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not lately, used to be good. You can look it up on the WDFW fishing site and find out if they stock it.

If you forget your mosquito repellent you might as well just turn around and go home. Nice area to camp but the blood suckers are big and plentiful.

We always did well at Council with yellow, black or brown roostertails or woollyboogers.  Yes, bring your Thermacell!
