There is a Game Ranch "Dry Hollow." She has a lot of birds around her place. You can hunt scratch birds, "birds gone wild," on the cheap. It is fun. Outside of that I have no idea.

i think you will find a few grouse in the hills, but not sure how you'd fare for much else...there's a lot of private ground in that immediate area where i can think any other birds might be. try the farm country more towards pomeroy. there's some feel free to hunt land around and some farmers might give you some access. i saw a few roosters along hwy 12 every day last weekend.

Germanshorthair, Jackelope is right.  You might also get lucky and bust a covey of quail or two or even some chucker here and there. I was out there last weekend (I grew up in Pomeroy) and saw both while just doing a little hiking/screwing around.

There is a large area of "Feel free to hunt" land along highway 12 as you head toward Pomeroy from Starbuck (a couple miles before you hit the rest area at the Dodge intersection/Central Ferry turn-off). It will be on your left hand side of Hwy 12 as you head toward P-roy.

Good luck!

there's also a nice big chunk or 2 of feel free to hunt up 127 a ways  towards colfax from central ferry that usually has some roosters running around in it. it's pretty easy to spot on the right side of the road in a couple different places...maybe 45 minutes to an hour from pomeroy tops.

Good catch Jack....Just a bit further from Starbuck but still within an easy drive. In fact, they are probably a bit better than the area along Hwy 12 too. Just my experience but the areas along 127 seem to be hit less than the area along 12.

Either way, you have a number of options in the area.
