Looking for a hike on the west side of the mountains
« on: July 07, 2014, 08:48:06 PM »
I have a aunt and uncle coming out here from North Carolina am they are interested in doing some hiking while they are here. They will not have hiking boots with them so I'm hoping for a hike with little to no snow.

I was wanting to hike lake Minotaur and thesis up by stevens pass but I figured that there would still be snow on the trail.

When are they coming? Not a lot of snow anymore.

Lake Serene up Highway 2 is awesome. It gets a little crowded but pretty much any of those on the hwy 2 corridor are going to be a little crowded. Less than the I90 corridor though. I imagine the snow should be all but gone at this point.

Most of the trails are melted out along the Mountain Loop Hwy plus it is a beautiful drive from Granite Falls to Darington or vice versa.  Hikes range from 1 mile to 10 round trip with varying elevation gains depending on your goals. Some of the more popular ones are
Heather Lake, 4 miles RT
Lake 22, 5 miles RT
Monte Cristo town site (really cool) 8 miles RT on an old road. Easy hike/walk
North Fork Sauk River a flat easy hike through old growth
Mt Pilchuck 6 miles RT but still some snow
Goat Lake, 10 miles RT very nice lake, easy
Ice caves, 2 miles RT but no caves yet as of 2 weeks ago. Still a nice easy hike

One of my favorite day hikes in  summer or winter.

We ended up going to Barkley lake on highway 2. Easy hike and great views, we did not catch any fish.
