another pooping question
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:54:06 PM »
Where do you often find the poop for blacktails?

Scouting a lot last year and found trails all over the place, but some areas contained more poop than others.

Wondering if blacktails poop close to the time they either (1) feed or (2) get up from bedding over night....?

Yesterday, for example, I was checking out some clear cuts and ran across 4 does bedded throughout (mid-afternoon).  I scoped the area and the edges into the timber, but found only faint trails and no poop at all.

Contrast that to last year, where, in an area next to a swamp I KNEW they were hiding at, I saw all sorts of poop, lots of it.

Same thing with elk too.

I've seen heavy trails, but not all contain poop.

Any input would be appreciated.  Just trying to tie together some observations.

I usually find poop on the ground... :sry:

My experience is more in feeding areas than travel areas.

Deer tend to relieve themselves after standing up, though they may do it at any time.

Deer and elk poop constantly. Eat, step, poop repeat. That's all they do.
