Too late for blacktail foor plot or bait station?
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:50:49 AM »
Just moved into a rental, 5 acre parcel in 454.  I see deer every morning and evening on the property.  2 individual does, 1 with a single fawn, and another with twins.  I haven't yet seen a buck, but have seen them on neighboring properties.  There is a major trail intersection at the far end of the property in a heavily forested corner that fans out to a large overgrown horse pasture where I see all of the deer.

Question:
1)  Is it too late to set up a food plot or bait station to attract the bucks in the area?  My fear is I will only be feeding the does and fawns and rarely condition a buck to change his travel patterns.
If there is time, any specific products to recommend that would entice a buck to use the area come September and later?

2)  Stand location:  Edge of timber in the middle of the fanned out trails or right at the trail intersection where they all combine?

Apples work awesome, and even if you only keep the does and fawns on your property come October/November the bucks will come looking for them.

IMO, a feed station for blacktails will feed blacktails in the area but, you probably won't pull in any new deer or condition the existing ones to eat your feed.  There's just too much out there for them to eat to care about food that people put out.  Just my experience and opinion
