Huckleberry doe tag
« on: September 11, 2007, 11:36:50 AM »
I drew a rifle huckleberry doe tag this year along with my 5 buddies. It was my #3 choice. I know there is alot of private land, but is there any good public land with whitetails? Any help would be great. Thanks,

Boy, I gotta be honest, I have been up scouting that unit quite a bit from the Springdale-Hunters road and North for Moose as my hunting partner drew a Moose tag.  To be honest I have seen far more Mulies than I have seen Whitetails.  But I would think you should be able to find a farmer from which to get permission to nail a doe.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

get in touch with forest capitol. they manage all the land boise cascade had in the area. the huckleberry deer are VERY thick, but VERY hit and miss. you will have a little hunting to do but I think if you give much effort you will be golden. I would not be discouraged by seeing other hunters either.....you're gonna.

The orin Rice road cuts east west over the ridge from teh Columbia over to just short of Colville.  once you are up a bit out of rice, there's ton's of state land north and south of the road. Monumental mountain and Kentry Ridge. When I was there last the roads heading south onto Kentry were locked so you'd have to walk in. In either event, You don't need to be ridge topped. hunt lower and near the creeks. There's no shortage of state land.
