Was good to fish Lake Erie again
« on: July 28, 2014, 02:00:08 PM »
My wife, kids, and I took a vacation in Pennsylvania over the last few weeks. Was a great time! The drive was fun, lots to see along I-90. My Uncle took my Dad, my son, and my self out on Erie for a day on the big water. We caught a few walleye, some white bass, and a sheephead. Dipsey Divers with crawler harness or thundersticks was the ticket. Biggest walleye was 27".

Very nice.  Some good eats there, well, except for that drum.

Is it pretty complicated running those planer boards?

The Planer boards are not hard at all. Uncle has a tall out rigger on the bow, so the lines go out very easy. Only issue is when the white bass get hooked, usually they will not pull off the release. So, you can drag a trash fish / small fish and not know it.  We just checked lines every so often if we were not getting hits.

Nice! Looks like fun. I've always wanted to try some salmon/trout fishing in the great lakes. Those guys boats look like floating porcupines they have so many rods out. Wish we could get away with that here sometimes.

They sure do fish a LOT of rods! I was hoping for a line peeling steelhead for the boy to fight, but it did not happen. NY and Ontario still plant salmon, PA plants steelhead and brown trout now. Kings and cohos are few and far between off PA waters.

Had some awesome days growing up fishing the east basin.  Unbelievable back in the day when anything under 25" went back and limits of all over 30" were common.  Keep thinking I need to make a trip back, but Roosevelt is so much closer.

I hear ya. I too remember those days in the mid 80s & 90s. Spectacular fishing.
