Looking for a muzzy for my wife.
« on: July 29, 2014, 05:08:21 PM »
I'm looking for something 50 cal in the $300 range. I know that it has to be Washington legal (no 209 primer) , but other than that I'm not sure where to start. My wife is 5'10" and can shoot a full size gun, so no youth models. Are used guns a good option or should I stick with new? Any help would be great.

If she's 5'10 and can shoot a full size gun take a look at the recently re-introduced Knight Wolverine.    It is identical to the littlehorn, just has an adult stock on it.   Or identical to the Bighorn but with a 22 inch barrel instead of 26.   I like the balance of the 22 inch better and since we are limited to open sights I doubt you're missing much from the velocity loss of the barrel difference.  My buddy just picked up a brand new one for a little over $300.

Used guns are always possible, but just make sure that you really look over what you're purchasing. With your budget, you should have no problem buying a brand new gun and that will include a warranty and piece of mind that the gun is in perfect condition.

The Knight Little Horn and Big Horns are great guns for sure, but I would also consider either the CVA Wolf or Optima, depending on personal preference. The Wolf has a compact version, with a 13" length of pull, but your wife will be able to handle the full size version with the 14" LOP since she is taller. The Wolf also has a shorter barrel, and is lighter weight, which may be better for her as well. Out to 100yds, the Wolf will be perfect. If weight isn't an issue, I would go with the Optima. You'll gain some better accuracy at the longer yardages, even though with open sights you'll be limited.

It will boil down to personal preference and what you like, but any of these guns will be great. Let us know what you choose, and how she likes it!

So after looking at 5 or 6 front stuffers my wife said she wanted to buy the CVA Wolf. I'll let you guys know how it shoots later this week. Thanks for all the input.
