colockum archery cow tag.
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:00:02 PM »
So I drew it and yes I'm that guy who put in for an area I've never elk hunted in :bdid: I know  :sry: . I did however do a scouting trip last weekend and saw a few elk.  My biggest concern is that my dad drew peaches bull tag and I would really like to help him with that tag.  My plan right now is to hunt the cow tag the first 2 or maybe 3 days then head over to help my dad with his tag.  Is it best to hunt the first couple days of the season or wait until the end?

In archery, its a toss up. I'd say the elk will be moving better the first day and then you will have to search a little for them. I'd for sure be there opening day of the cow tag! Good luck, and good luck getting your Dad a elk!

:yeah: I would go first few days before they have been chased around. With the amount of tags out there I am sure it will be busy, even for archery.

Opening day and hunt up near the Arthur Coffin place and shoot arrows at cow elk before they get in there. Good luck with both tags!

No worries, everybody gets one.  On a serious note, find a spot with good cover and sit.  They'll be moving through with their tongues hanging out while looking over their backs.

I'm in the same boat as you are.  Gonna head over a few days early to scout some area..

I found that stand 6 years ago...or so lol nice home build....well I have no idea if that's the one you're talking about..I've found a few permanent stands in there..

I'd drive to swift creek and pick a direction.....I also think it will be busy, but that can work in your favor

They would drown :chuckle:
