rut still on, blacktails?
« on: December 06, 2008, 05:16:32 PM »
Is the rut still on for Blackies? I am thinking about heading out soon and was considering weather or not to bring my rattling horns.

Thanks~ :hello:

I keep hearing that there are good bucks down there, but I have yet to even see a spike. I see a couple does, but not many deer overall. :dunno:

The second rut should kick in in the next few days here locally.  Although not like the first it is still good.  We have arrowed bucks as late as Dec. 25th chasing does.

Im trying to figure where I am gonna head..>I more than likely will head up 90 and off 18 somewheres...but dont really hunt up there too much...and rarely ever see any deer sigh up there...seem to have better luck with deerskies up north (skagit county)... :chuckle: :dunno:

I spent today down in the Winston unit. Saw two elk, but no deer.

Did see a big fresh rub closer to home this evening though. Couldn't track down the buck that made it though.

Hwy 18 has been pounded to hell this year. I've been heading waaaayy south this year, further than usual, did manage to get away from the hordes though.

Well if seeing a really nice 3x3 with eyeguards standing on the fog line with cars driving by at a couple feet is an indication then I would say yes. 288th st. e. and Meridian today at 5:30 pm. Puyallup Unit. This deer was rut drunk. He was staring over on the other side of the road presumably looking for the hot doe he was smelling. He didn't even blink at the cars driving by he just was standing there staring across the road.

I think a doe bleat would fire him right up and get him running right in.

Unfortunatly that area is all private property.
