Help a disabled retired veteran get first his elk.
« on: August 06, 2014, 03:43:32 PM »
I have a friend who drew the *181 couse tag for cow 8-23-14 he will hunt modern and from a four wheeler or truck.  He suffered a stroke early this year so we are bound to get him an elk. The early season temp is easier on him. What we are looking for is a land/farm in the 181  unit to harvest a cow on. I can offer archery hunting for elk/deer in tucannon an lick creek. Duck hunting and upland or spring turkey and  fall steelhead. To throw a cherry on top I can also offer glass blowing lesson. Please help an old guy get his first elk.

I wish I could help but know nothing about that unit.... I am sure someone on here will be stepping up soon.

Best of luck!
Brian

Let me see what I can do I know a lot of people out that way!
A bad day out hunting is better than a good day at work!

Most of the unit is posted or hunt club land so its not going to be easy to find a place to hunt. Get a list of the land owners from the county and start contacting them. Good luck

Talked with Jason Burl today, he is with fish and game for land owner hunting. Very helpful. Most the areas he had  I have been in contact with. Still waiting on a couple land owners. Trying to find out about disabled access to  DNR land, most my contacts are fighting fires now in Idaho. Any info is one step closer for my old buddy to tagging out early.

We were out last weekend going to be dry this year, some creeks had water some were dry. Huckel berries are in.  Found forty or so elk in one heard in Lick Creek then a smaller group of five On Saturday. A few small bulls bugled.  Not sure if the dryness will have an effect on Archery season. Found the lost game came. Have pics of bulls fighting in early Oct, bulls with busted antlers, cow elk in two feet of snow in Dec. Thank you to the hunters who did not steal it, you guys look good.
