When will 2015 hali season be set?
« on: August 11, 2014, 02:09:58 PM »
I'm looking at planning a trip out to MA 5&6 next year and am trying to figure out when the seasons will be set so I can make hotel reservations.  Anyone know when they will come out?

Also, if there are multiple openings, would you shoot for the early or later days around Seikiu & Port Angeles?

It is frustrating trying to make reservations because they don't decide till April. This year it was April 1st. To find this info go to WDFW news release's, over on the left hit April in News Releases Archive. I have been looking at previous years and making plans based on that because it is open the same days of the week each year. So if it opened this year May 9 a Friday chances are it will open the second Friday in 2015. Go early, it is usually best to go for the opener because there are more fish still there then.

I agree with going early in the season if you have to pick a time. Area 6 (Port Angeles) is usually the first to open and its usually the first or second week of May. The fish are migrating from the eastern Straits to the west and back out to the ocean. So theoretically there are more fish available at the start of the seasons. Good luck! Have fun! See ya out there.
Fish hard, hunt harder!
