First shots after 8 years
« on: August 17, 2014, 08:14:58 AM »
So I got the multi-season deer tag this year and sighted in my muzzleloader on Friday. (lots of rain, it's been too dry to even think about shooting) I purchased Traditions 300 gr smackdown SST's, 110grs of loose triple7 mag. #11 primer, TC Black Diamond 50cl w/peep sites. 90 yds I could hardly see the bull so I buried the post middle of target. First shot high, then I remembered the last time I shot I would put the target just above the post. Second shot I lowered the post so I could see orange, (90yds I could hardly see it) Bang Bulls eye. Good enough.

Glad to see that you are shooting a ML again... 8 years is a big span...  Doesn't look like you have lost the touch... hope you get a chance to shoot some more - & have a great season..
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Thanks. I've never hunted deer w/one just elk. I bow hunted them for years and my hunting buddy got married and hunted w/his wife. So I introduced my muzzleloader buddy to elk, first year we drew cow tags for the bumping. He shot a cow and I did shot a spike bull. The next year I called in a 6x6, nice bull in the NE corner came right to him and he missed. Muzzleloader areas were not open where I hunt deer so I never tried. After this season I might just go full on. When I went from bow to muzzleloader for elk, I noticed a lot of guys went from riffle to muzzleloaders and knew nothing about calling. They would just hunt and hope to hear elk bugles.  :dunno:
