Strange deer behavior

I'm a fairly new WA state hunter. I went out past couple days high country bear hunting. No luck w the bears, but I came across deer on two occasions that had little to no fear of me.  I'm talking I walked within 10 feet of one of them. Could this be due to the lengthy walk in from the road or the fact that's it's not deer season? I've just never seen deer act that way.

i have walked very close to many mule deer in areas with really high hunting pressure, the does and small bucks seem to know they arent going to be harmed?

Where were you? That looks like a fairly well maintained hiking trail. If it is that, those deer are more than likely used to human interaction.

You should be happy to have deer behavior like that in your area,easier to fill your tag.

Olympic national forest. It was on a trail,  I was on my way out and that doe did not mind me.

Yep, I would guess that she is used to a lot of hikers on that trail, and they never bother her, so she sees no reason to waste energy by running away.

Good info, thanks. I'm chalking it up as a possible deer hunting spot this year. I can only assume during deer season there will be less hikers out there. It just seems smart to use the trails to be get into the back country.
